Why select JM Homecare as your agency?
At JM Homecare, we are here not only to provide invaluable assistance to employers but also to assist caregivers from the very beginning.  From resume preparation and the processing of government documentation, through to your arrival in Canada and beyond, we will provide caregivers with the relevant and crucial industry-related training they will need in order to adapt to their new environment and confidently find solutions to problems which they will be encountering. JM Homecare is an agency that really DOES care for our caregivers.

Why choose Canada to practice as a caregiver?
Personally, Canada is THE land of opportunities. We are a country which encourages diversity, where hardworking multicultural groups of immigrants from practically every country--who also share a common appreciation for each other-- have contributed immeasurably to many different segments of society.  The triumphs are hard-won and the discoveries are internationally renowned.  From producing world-class Olympic calibre athletes and superstar entertainers, to global peace-keeping efforts and technological and scientific advancements, Canada and its immigrant citizens have made its mark on the world.

Like our government proclaims, and many Canadians will surely agree, “We are the best place on earth to live.”  The benefits are numerous: a universal medical coverage plan; people are genuinely warm and gracious; political stability, great employment opportunities; a fair system of employment standards that protects not just Canadian workers, but also foreign workers under the same laws; and, not to mention, we have a great educational system and skills training programs in just about every industry.  Add to that four seasons and a varied geography of great beauty, and you will soon come to discover why many immigrants choose to call Canada, “home.”

With the Live-In Caregiver program currently in place, individuals who have developed a new-found love for Canada and who qualify, based on time spent living and working here, are rewarded with the opportunity to apply for immigration.  Under the Live-In Caregiver scheme, if you have completed 24 months of employment within a 36 month period from the date of entry into Canada, you may apply for permanent residency. You would first apply for an open work permit, which would allow you to work in Canada in any occupation while you wait for your permanent residency.

Why care giving as a profession?
Sometimes, when we have loved ones who are incapable of looking after themselves, we seek help from professional caregivers who are able to provide that needed level of expertise. That’s where JM Homecare Agency comes in—placing our dedicated and supportive team of caring professionals with clients who require our help. JM Homecare seeks out nannies and caregivers who are compassionate, respectful, and empathetic. We look for high quality service-minded individuals who are flexible, education-oriented, baby in autumn leavesand willing to go the extra mile when it comes to practicing the art of care giving.

Are you considering coming to Canada to practice in a rewarding career as a nanny or caregiver and as a stepping stone to a brighter future? If you are flexible, have the skills and the right attitude to reach out to others and to enrich their lives, then you have found the right site and the right agency to partner with!  We welcome you aboard to join our team and our dedication to reach out to families who need expert care for their love ones.

OUR SPECIAL PARTNERS…NANNIES & CAREGIVERS

A nanny does a job that few can, or are willing to do.  To be a nanny, you need a gentle, patient, and loving spirit.  You should also be able to extend love and care to somebody’s child.  These are the primary characteristics that JM Homecare Agency is looking for in a nanny.  We are committed to providing families that require our help with the right caregiver. We assure the families who sign on with JM Homecare that our nannies have received the necessary training they need before starting work with their new employer. This provides a sense of relief not only to the family but to the nanny as well.

Grandmother and her daughter together. Caring for the elderly is not unlike caring for children.  When you think about it, it is part of the natural cycle of life that people go through. They still deserve respect, sensitivity, gentleness and dignity while their confidentiality is maintained. It takes a unique person to practice the art of care giving—someone who is honest, patient, understanding, empathetic, compassionate, and gracious. Care giving involves providing comfort, safety, companionship, assistance in daily living activities, and also  ensuring that clients have their living aids (like hearing-aid, sunglasses, eye-wear, proper footwear) as well as  making sure that clients are appropriately dressed with the proper footwear and clothing.

What can you expect in your role as a caregiver?
Being a professional caregiver is a demanding job, but it is equally rewarding as well. Your employment in a Canadian setting will challenge you to grow culturally, career-wise, and language-wise, improving your standard of English. Canada is a very multicultural society with citizens representing every country in the world and from all walks of life.
Being a nanny/caregiver means that you become a part of your employer’s family, helping to foster a positive environment that is nurturing, loving and caring. You will have a tremendous impact in the lives of those you care for.  You will also be responsible for managing their daily routine.  Due to the tremendous amount of responsibility involved in the position, a professional nanny/caregiver always exercises discretion, protecting the privacy of their employer.  Thus, we endeavour to place only individuals of high standards.

How do I apply for the Live-In Caregiver program?

To apply for the Live-In Caregiver program, you need to qualify for the program.

Step 1 To qualify, you need to provide proof of successful completion of a secondary school diploma/certificate equivalent to the Canadian Secondary School diploma. Additionally, you must have at least 6 months’ full-time training in a classroom setting in an area of study such as early childhood education, geriatric care, pediatric nursing, or, at least 1 year of working experience in a field or occupation similar to what you do as a live-in caregiver. You need to include at least 6 months of continuous employment with the same employer. This employment must be within a 3 year period immediately before the day on which you make an application for a work permit as a caregiver. Essentially, you must be fluent and have a good knowledge of English or French.

Step 2 You have to agree to work and live with the employer.  In return, they will provide you with a furnished private bedroom.  Your employment will be full-time, and you are not allowed to work for anyone other than the employer who hired you.

Step 3 If you agree, and meet all the above criteria, you also have to fulfill JM Homecare Agency’s Professional Standards of Excellence (please see Caregivers’ FAQ Section, question #2).

Step 4 With your commitment to our agency, please print the application form from our Caregiver Application Form section. We ask that you be honest, truthful, and provide us with accurate and detailed information on your application so that we can match you with your ideal employer. If the required supporting documentation is not provided, or any necessary information is missing, we will not be able to process the application. We will only process completed applications.

Step 5 Once we have received all necessary documentation (proof of education, police clearance, list of references and the application form), we will then verify the information and process the application.  We will then arrange a suitable time for the first stage of interviews with you, either by phone or video conference.
On how to obtain a police (clearance) certificate, please see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/index.asp

Step 6 If the first interview is successful, we will proceed to the next level. With all the information provided by you, we will present your portfolio to the potential employer. If you have been selected by them, we will then inform you to set a date and time for an interview with the employer. Please note that most likely a potential employer will also have selected a few other caregivers to be interviewed.  This is so that the employer will have a better idea as to which caregiver is the most ideal one for their family.  The most successful applicants are the ones with the right skills and experience as well as those demonstrating preparedness during the interview. Therefore, if you require assistance in interview preparation, please contact our office as we are available to assist you.

Step 7 Once you have been selected by the employer, we will help them process the Labour Market Opinion (LMO).  This will take approximately 3 -4 weeks.  Once we receive a positive reply for the LMO letter, we will send you a copy of the written employment contract from your employer, along with the Labour Market Opinion letter to you so that you can apply for a work permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Step 8 In order to expedite the application process and your arrival in Canada, we will assist you with the necessary work permit documentation and application form for Citizenship and Immigration Canada. You will need to undergo and pass a medical examination before you are able to come to Canada. It will take about 3 -4 months for the processing of most applications, depending from the country you are applying from. If applying from the Philippines, it might take more than six months to a year. To enquire how long it will take to process this portion of your particular application, please contact us.

Step 9 Once the work permit is approved, and if needed, we can assist you with travel arrangements. All caregivers will receive a one day work orientation session upon arrival, in order to brief them as to what is expected, and to further provide the necessary tools to help them prepare for their new job assignment. The orientation further helps to alleviate any concerns or questions which you might have, in embarking on your care giving career in a new country. If you feel you are lacking in any area of job competency, we also offer additional comprehensive industry-related courses in order to enhance and develop your skills, as well as helping you settle into a new country like Canada. We also provide convenience services such as money wiring and the sale of phone cards, so you can send money and call home.   If needed, we will help you locate a local family to stay with on your days off, so you can rest and relax.  This will also allow your employer to have their own family time together.

JM Homecare is committed to ensuring that the caregiver and employer both have a positive and rewarding experience.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call us.  Consultation is free and we are here to assist you in any way we can.  Call us now, your future employers awaits you.

We thank you in advance for giving us the opportunity to take care of you, and to assist you in your journey to a new and exciting career. We look forward to meeting you and pairing you with your ideal employer.
