MY PERSONAL STORY
Hi! My name is Jacqueline. I’m the co-founder of JM Homecare Inc. Let me tell you more about why I have decided to start-up JM Homecare with my friend and fellow co-founder, Mercy.
We met a few years ago and we both quickly became great friends. Based on our personal beliefs about family care, we decided to become business partners. We share a common vision which keeps us grounded—our love for life, our love for people, and our compassion for others. We are inspired by many people who have touched our lives, and that is what JM Homecare is all about. We believe that every person should have the right to have loving care that is based on respect and dignity, despite their age, race or culture.
MY CAREGIVER STORY
For me, there is a personal attachment as to how the idea for JM Homecare came about. My grandmother was a nurse who had contributed many years to caring for others. In her final golden years, she was being cared for in the same way. Several of her caring and loving caregivers were patient, respectful and gave her the dignified care she deserved.
Her experience has inspired me in my endeavours here at the agency to find the very best caregivers who practice with the same sense of compassion and dedication.
MY NANNY STORY
A few years ago, I was pregnant with my second child and became very ill. At the same time, I was in and out of the hospital and heavily medicated. I had to send my oldest daughter, Trinity, who was 18 months old to a daycare. It was one of the hardest moments of my life as we had never been apart since the day she was born. So, not only was I unable to care for myself, taking care of her was practically impossible.
Trinity was sick most days at the daycare, catching frequent colds from those around her. One day, I had decided to pick her up early. Like any concerned mom, I was not happy with what I discovered. My child had been left unattended, crying while her daycare workers were all standing around talking. My heart sank, and guilt ran through me. But what else could I do? At that time, I simply had no choice.
On another occasion, Trinity was at the playground, quite a few feet away from the seemingly distracted daycare workers, who were supposed to be spotting the children. When I inquired where my child was, they, at first, didn’t even know. My perplexed did not even faze them. Fortunately, I did find my precious. While approaching her, I noticed she was spitting out tiny pebbles and dirt, which is totally unacceptable. I realised at that point, I needed more personalized care for my children.
Mercy suggested that I hire a nanny to help around the house to take care of Trinity and my family. This is when Liz, our present nanny, entered into our lives. Our main concern was this--opening our lives to a total stranger and also having her care for our children. Liz turned out to be God-sent. Not only was she great with our children, our girls loved her dearly. You could hear giggles and laughter echoing throughout our house. What inspired me most was her genuine love for our daughters.
The truth of the matter is this. Most caregivers have made the ultimate sacrifice to leave their family and their children behind in another country and come work in Canada so that someone else’s children and loved ones can have better care. In return, they provide their own families with financial support so that their loves ones can have a better future.
We care about our caregivers whom we assist in our agency, helping them integrate seamlessly into Canadian culture, providing them with a surrogate family when they arrive. We offer applicable courses for them to enhance their skills as well as counsel them in other related areas. Our personal hope is for you and your family to have a wonderful experience with a caregiver who really cares, and a caregiver who is happy in a new environment so that they can continue to provide your family with quality care.
To our nanny, Liz, we thank you for the love and support that you have given to our family and especially to our two lovely daughters, Trinity and Therese. This agency is very much inspired by talented caregivers like you who continue to love and care for families like ours.
